Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is very similar to that of a TENS unit ( Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). With this application, it causes the muscles to contract in an instance where an injury might prevent this from occuring. In this event, the EMS will cause the muscles to contract and maintain tone, strength, and pliability assuring the smallest amount of muscle atrophy ( muscle break down). In addition to causing muscle contractions and maintaining strength and tone it also cause the body to release hormones that are natural pain relievers produced by the body in need.
