Kinesiotaping is a physical modality using a type of elastic tape that has stretching capablities. Kinesiotaping is very beneficial for patients who have recently been injured. If you watched the latest Summer Olympics you may have already learned about kinesiotaping as Keri Walsh of the USA Women's Beach Volleyball team had kinesiotape on her shoulder during the games.
The taping allows individuals to maintain normal ranges of motion, while at the same time having the support and bracing they need. In addition to providing support for musculature, the kinesiotape helps elevate surrounding tissues and allows for continuous lymphatic and arterial flow that helps to alleviate swelling, and remove debris from the injured area.
